Description “In the wake of Sputnik two physicists and one economist [John Archibald Wheeler, Eugene Wigner, and Oskar Morgenstern] at Princeton University sought to build a laboratory for basic research serving the military. Although the laboratory as proposed was never established, the rise and fall of their proposal illuminates the relationship between academic science and national defense during the Cold War.”
