Warner, Brian (Author)
Description “Twenty years before the Great Melbourne Telescope went into operation (in 1869) there were requests that such a telescope should be installed at the Cape of Good Hope. The astronomer in charge was to be Charles Piazzi Smyth. We examine the origins and abandonment of these proposals, the principal aspects of which were later resurrected for use in the Melbourne telescope.”
