Medicine and science as masculine “fields of honor” (1997)

unapi

Description “This essay is a preliminary attempt to consider aspects of medicine and science as cultural practices governed by masculine honor codes. I wish to establish the point that honor codes of great antiquity were transmitted remarkably intact to modern bourgeois culture, where they served as part of the fabric of male sociability among doctors, scientists, and other professionals throughout modern Europe.”
